As a culture, we’ve almost lost the ability to talk in a way that allows us to to understand what people are going through. It’s really hard at first, but vulnerable talk can be made easier. It’s okay to be transparent.
Heavy interactions need not feel so big all the time, especially with the people we feel closest to – our families. Here are some resources to help guide the process.
Create Connectedness:
Belonging is a basic human need, crucial for emotional and physical well-being. It increases our resilience to deal with life’s stressors and gives us the feeling we aren’t alone.
Empathetic communication requires you to be sensitive to your emotional state. If you aren’t noticing what’s happening, you block yourself from truly understanding and being understood.
Thoughtful reflection of your own patterns, behaviors, and roots can lead you to create a better understanding of yourself. That’s an important step to feel more connected with others.
When we feel comfortable in relationships, we can be ourselves. We feel free to express our thoughts, feelings, and needs. We don’t have to put up walls.
